it has been a whirlwind of a week. pupilage applications have come and gone in a flurry of interviews, phonecalls and messages. i am just really really thankful it is over and i have a place somewhere. it amazes me that i decided my short-term future in a matter of 48 hours (or less) and in a mad flurry of phonecalls and messages, asking people more in-the-know for advice. the pupilage applications also threw me right in into the rat race of the singapore society.
like linda said, in wellington, i think we constructed a very happy and fairytale-like world in which we lived very happily for a year. sheltered from the realities of the world and yes, frolicking with the cows and sheep :) AND then, back to singapore and thrown into the pupilage application process. the waiting process is how painful!!! waiting for interviews and waiting for offers... those few days, everytime my hp rang, i tell you my heart starts racing. at first, it was waiting for the interviews. then, it was the even more painful wait for the firms to call back to offer a position.
someone was saying that they should just make pupilage applications like secondary school applications. we send in a form and we are assigned to the law firms according to grades. and that is what the law firms look at first, no matter how much they claim to look at other achievements. i agree! much less painful and stressful. but well, at least it's over... and i can once again sleep easy :)
and of course, there was work this week... work is draining ALL my energy. i am sleepy all the time!!! someone get me out of there!!! i get so sleepy at work that i decided to bring food with me. my colleagues were extremely amused by my little picnic of sorts. i was eating every hour. seriously. this week, i am supposed to bring celery and carrot sticks to snack as healthy alternatives to my chipsmore cookies and raisin bread... hee. we will see...
sigh... monday is tomorrow!!! work beckons AGAIN! it's only my second week! help help help! i hate it! the office politics is incredible. everyone is telling me that is how work is like. but sigh, i just cannot accept the double standards and the bootlicking. and i think, with my professed alliance to Group "A", i have lost favour with the bootlicker who is with Group "B". i have moved from "The Amazing Race: Wellington" to "Survivor: The Corporate Jungle". at least, my other colleagues are nice and really hilarious :) you win some and you lose some, i guess...
all in all, it's been a good week :) on hindsight lah, of course... i wouldn't have said the same on Monday or Tuesday...
conversation of the week...
me: "you know, i always wonder why i don't ever meet my cousins with their girlfriends or boyfriends when i am out..."
chongwee: "that's because people happening... go clubbing etc... while YOU go supermarket and buy things..."

no lah. jiaying's all ready to start looking for HDB flats and baby cribs already. very soon you'll catch her in the wet market bargaining with the fish auntie to give her extra fishballs.
well jiaying and this also means we'll have to meet up more often for coffee sessions. and more pigging. so skip the snacking at work, go to the restroom for your nap, and we'll release all that stress on stingrays and gelato. hurhur what's that place in PS again ah?
