ribena reflections

this coming week is the last week for the first part of pupilage! i am neither extremely happy or sad. i am looking forward to becoming a student again where i have only to be responsible to myself and i am the only one judging my work! i am sure it will be stressful but it is a different kind of stress which i feel is easier to cope with. i know i am strange but recently i have been feeling like i am play-acting as an adult when i go to work. it's like from 9am to 6pm (or later), i put on working clothes and pretend to be a lawyer-to-be pupil. then on weekends and after work, i go back to being a kid. it's like living a double life, in a way. maybe i will get used to working and handling the responsiblities when i go back in decemebr for the second part of pupilage...

this last week feels like it will be a busy week. maybe it's coz i had to do work over the weekend because i got arrowed work late on friday evening. so i have been reading and re-reading the work that i had to produce to hopefully reduce the number of errors in it. it will never be GOOD because no matter what i have been tasked with, no matter how easy it looks, the work always comes back with errors. SIGH. it is abit demoralising sometimes but i guess this is what they mean when they say that the learning curve is very steep. it is indeed very steep because i feel varying degrees of stupidity when i do things and i feel that the four years of education in law school only taught me that there is walter woon to flip through. hopefully, things will become better when i start getting the hang of things when i go back in decemeber this year. hopefully, when i go back in december, some other things that have been troubling me for this part of pupilage will be better. hopefully, it will be more like this previous two weeks :)

anyways, in other things, watching the world cup is becoming the social event of the year. we hung out at dan's place to watch the germany-argentina game on friday night and it was an exhilarating and hilarious affair. the game was exciting (from the second half) and wee had a germany flag draped over dan's sofa. so no prizes for guessing who we were rooting for :) and it was really funny coz the guys were extremely amused by the weirdest things that wendy and i were commenting on. for instance, we observed that the argentine players generally have a lot of hair. wendy thinks their head bands are really ugly and the argentine goalkeeper has the longest non-pronounceable name ever. in addition, wendy also thought that the german players were very sloppy because their t-shirts were not tucked in. oh yah, wendy also wondered and worried whether the argentine first goalkeeper ruptured his spleen after he got kicked in his stomach (haha, occupational hazard!!!) hungry me, on the other hand, kept thinking that the argentine players' name sounded like food. u have to agree that "Cambiasso" sounds like campbell soup while "Coloccini" sounds like fetuccine! BUT we are not bimbos AT ALL! at least we found the game interesting. it's just that girls tend to focus on other things besides the players' skills or whatever.

oh. and did anyone read the papers on sunday about the new bus which is wheelchair friendly? it has been bothering me ever since i read it. the article basically follows what happens and what the bus driver does when the bus picks up a wheelchair-bound passenger. there is nothing wrong with the whole article except the part when the bus driver apologised TWICE to the other passengers for the delay caused when the whole process takes no more than 3 minutes. WHY does the driver have to apologise? is it such an inconvenience? if we are making these buses wheelchair friendly so that the disabled can take public transport and be integrated into society, what does it mean when you have to apologise for a service that help them? they are normal people like all of us, except that they take more time to board and alight from the bus. assuming that the other passengers are not blind, they can see that for themselves. it is not an inconvenience for which the driver needs to apologise for! if anything, one of the passengers should be helping the disabled passenger. if anyone dares complain about the delay, i say he can jolly well get off the bus and walk to his destination. i don't know if i the only person who thinks so much about the apologising but it really really irked me.

now that i have gotten so many things off my chest, i feel so mushc better! it is time for some alone time before beauty sleep sets into my system. may this week be a good week :)
